Why AFCON 2027 is different

East Africa. The continent's most extraordinary AFCON yet.

🦁

It's genuinely different

AFCON has been hosted in West and North Africa before. East Africa is a fundamentally different travel experience — Swahili culture, Indian Ocean coastline, safari wildlife, mountain gorillas. This AFCON is also a once-in-a-generation Africa trip.

🤝

The welcome will be extraordinary

Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have large, warm and well-organised communities. East African hospitality is legendary. The diaspora arriving for AFCON 2027 will be received like the home crowd — you're African, you're here for African football, and East Africa will embrace you fully.

The football will be exceptional

AFCON 2027 has the best field in the tournament's history as the continent's football talent pool deepens. Three venues across three countries means the group stage spreads the excitement and you can attend matches in multiple cities on a single trip.

🌍

An excuse to see the continent properly

For diaspora Africans who haven't been back to the continent in years, AFCON 2027 is the ideal re-entry event. Football gives the trip structure. East Africa provides everything else.

Getting there

Wherever you're coming from

🇬🇧

Coming from the UK

London is the most natural starting point for an AFCON 2027 trip. Nairobi is the easiest East African entry point from London — multiple daily direct flights on Kenya Airways, British Airways and others. From Nairobi you can connect easily to Kampala and Dar. London to Nairobi is around 8.5 hours.

  • Kenya Airways and British Airways fly direct from Heathrow to Nairobi
  • From Nairobi, budget 1 hour for Kampala and 1.5 hours for Dar
  • Book flights 6+ months in advance — prices will surge
  • East African Tourist Visa covers Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania
🇺🇸

Coming from the US

From New York or Washington DC, Nairobi is reachable with one connection — typically via London, Amsterdam, Doha or Dubai. From Houston or Atlanta, similar routing. US passport holders can get East Africa visas on arrival or online — straightforward for all three host countries.

  • Ethiopian Airlines from Washington/New York via Addis has competitive pricing
  • Kenya Airways via London is a popular option
  • The journey is typically 16-20 hours total from the East Coast
  • Book accommodation as soon as possible — East African good hotels will sell out
🇨🇦

Coming from Canada

Toronto is the main Canadian starting point. From Toronto, the routing is typically via London, Amsterdam or a Gulf hub. Ethiopian Airlines via Addis Ababa is often the most direct African airline option. Journey time is similar to the US — 17-22 hours depending on routing.

  • Ethiopian Airlines Toronto → Addis → Nairobi is a strong routing
  • Air Canada/British Airways via London is reliable
  • Check East African visa requirements for Canadian passport holders
  • Toronto's Nigerian community is substantial — AFCON 2027 trips will be well-organised in community groups
🇦🇪

Coming from Dubai / UAE

Dubai to Nairobi is under 5 hours — one of the shortest long-haul connections in Africa. Emirates and Kenya Airways both fly the route directly. From Dubai you're geographically close to East Africa and the trip logistics are relatively simple. AFCON 2027 will be extremely popular from the Gulf diaspora.

  • Emirates and Kenya Airways fly direct Dubai → Nairobi
  • Connection to Dar es Salaam via Nairobi is easy
  • Less than 5 hours to Nairobi — more accessible than most diaspora locations
  • Gulf-based Nigerians make up a large and affluent AFCON 2027 demographic
